Mike Winter, whose work often explores simple processes where dynamic systems, situations, and settings are defined through minimal graphic- and text-based scores that can be realized in a variety of ways, explores experience through computation. The considerations of computability and epistemology are integral to his practice, and he often reconciles epistemological limits with artistic practicality by considering and addressing the limits of computation from a musical and experiential vantage point.

The program also includes work by two composer friends who share Winter’s mathematical interests. Samuel Vriezen’s Mode Studies is part of a new series of modular piece of flexible melodic counterpoint, and by the master in the field from the previous generation, Clarence Barlow, there is Pinball for solo clarinet and pre-recorded clarinets.
